Half-Life has native widescreen support.
In the video options, change the aspect ratio to Widescreen and select your resolution from the drop down menu.
For fix the FOV, in autoexec.cfg add the line default_fov "100" for 16:10 or "105" for 16:9.
Please note: Widescreen support is only available in the Steam [1] version of the game.
